Porto Pollo 2013

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I updated my blog... Sorry for that.
But the good news is that I had a crazy trip to Sardinia during the Easter Holidays! I went there to  attend the New Generation Project from Dieter Van Der Eyken. I arrived on the 6th of April. It was pretty late so we went straight to bed... The forecast for the next day wasn't looking that good. So we just went to the spot for a meet and greet with the other riders and Dieter explained all the moves we wanted to learn! In the afternoon Dieter said we could go on the choppy site to see if the wind would pick up... But it didn't look like that was going to happen! And suddenly out of nowhere we were all planing, I was even getting a little bit overpowered with my 4.0 Freek.
It's always nicer to get an unexpected session. It was a nice session to get familiar with the conditions at Porto Pollo. And at the end of day one, we all went sleeping with a big smile on our face :). With the first day being so good we all had our thumbs up for the second day. In the beginning of the day the wind wasn't that good so we could watch the videos that Dieter made from the day before and see what we were doing wrong and improve on our skills! In the afternoon the wind picked up and got perfect for my 4.0 and it was a sick session with nice double pop flaka's and my shaka's were getting closer and closer. At 5.30pm we all went of the water and went to a nice pizza restaurant :p. The forecast for day 3 was looking super sick so we all went to bed early but the next morning the wind didn't look that good so we all thought we would have a nice rest day so my hands could heal a little bit.... But the wind didn't want that and after lunch the wind started blowing again and we all went on the water. Unfortunately the wind took off pretty fast... So I was quite happy that my hands could rest a little, because the forecast for tomorrow was looking epic :p I woke up that morning and the wind was already looking super good so I was very stoked!!  The only sad thing was that I couldn't rig my favorite 4.0 Freek so I had to take my 3.7... But that didn't make the session bad because I landed a sick puneta 900°.  I was super happy about that! I also could practice my switch konos that day, I came pretty close. The next day was a day without action... But my hands were happy to rest :). We thought that in the morning we still could get a little slalom session but even a 6.5 wasn't big enough... So we went back to the beach and Dieter showed us some movies from the PWA in Sylt and in Fuerte. So we could learn how to plan our heats :)... We all went to bed early because the wind for the next day was looking pretty sick :)! The next day was the last unfortunately, but for sure it was a day that we wouldn't forget soon! After a nice but gusty session we all went to a restaurant and had a nice meal. At the end Dieter had 3 T-shirts: 2 for the best moves and one  for the most motivated guy! I won one for the best move with a Puneta 900° from the previous day. I was super happy about that! It was a nice clinic, I learned a lot but my trip wasn't over yet, the bad stuff still had to come... The next day we would leave late so we still could have a morning session: the wind was looking good so I rigged my 4.0 and went on the water. After maybe one or 2 hours sailing I wanted to do a double flaka and in the second rotation my knee twisted and I was in a lot of pain. Dieter helped me to get out of the water. When I was back in Belgium I went tosee  the doctor and he said I had to get in  a plaster for 1 week... Sick trip but a bad end ;) haha

EFPKT Croatia, Premantura 2012

Hi everyone,

It's a while ago since I updated my blog... Sorry for that! But now I'm back with some  news ;-)
So this autumn holidays I went to Croatia, Premantura for the European Freestyle Pro Kids Tour! My goal was to get a top 3 place.

Day 1

The first day of the event was nice and relaxing because there was no wind so we could do some site seeing because in Premantura there is such a beautiful nature! And we were even more lucky because we were in a nature park called Kamenjak! The manager of the park came in person to give us a guide through the park. First we went to an Istrian farm where we ate typical dishes from there. After that we went for a walk on "The Dinosaur Trail" where we could see real dinosaur footsteps in the rocks. After that we went back home to take a little rest after an active day but in the evening we had to go for our official opening ceremony! There were majorettes and the mayor was there to. Every country got called on the podium, and after that we had a nice walking diner! :-)

Day 2

The forecast for this day was looking really good 30 knots all day and it was only increasing! The skippers meeting was called at 10 with a first possible start at 11. I rigged my 3.7 and went to check out the conditions because it was my first day sailing in Premantura. I felt really confident I landed all my moves very consistent and was sure that I would sail good! But the wind was increasing all the time and when it was my first heat I already had to switch to my 3.0 and I was still fully overpowered... I got kicked out in the first round because I sailed really bad I couldn't perform in this wind... So the second day was ending rather bad for me than good... But the forecast was looking good for the coming days so I was determined to fight back in the double elimination!

Day 3

The forecast was really good for today up to 25 knots in the afternoon! So I was super stoked to fight back and get back on the podium! But the conditions were offshore and the wind was too gusty so I was pretty disappointed that we couldn't run the double... Luckily they still had an idea to keep us busy! :-) they made there a real life soccer table, it was such a blast! I would love to have this thing in my back yard!! After this we all went to the local Safari Bar a really nice place! With a beautiful view on the sea!

Day 4

We had to get out of our beds early this day! We thought that in the morning we might still have a chance to get some good wind! But that wasn't the case... Off course there was an other activity planned to make sure that the kids had a great time! This time we went paint balling :-)! My main goal was to give the head judge (Ruben Petrisie) a hard time in the field!! :-) But I didn't have to face him... Luckily I didn't get hit! After this we went to a beautiful aquarium in Pula where I saw some very funny fish :-). The coolest thing was that most fish in the aquarium are also found in the waters of Premantura. After that we had a chance to show our singing skills in a local bar in Premantura.

Day 5

It was another waiting day without wind... But luckily we had lots of activities like: horse riding, archery, sup and kayaking. And that was a lot of fun!! We also went for an nice biking tour on the rocky roads from Premantura! Day 5 for sure was also a lot of fun!!

Day 6

I was Really looking forward to this day! Because I would get a change to get back on the podium. I was really focused just trying to think about the competition. But in the beginning of the day the wind wasn't looking so good... But  in the back of my head still knowing that the wind would pick up I didn't wanna give up hope so I went on the water to check out the conditions. The wind picked up already! It was okay on my 3.7 so I couldn't wait to start my heat :)! I knew it was going to be a long day because I had to win 5 heat's before I would be on the podium. 5 Heats without resting feels like sailing 8 hours without resting... My first heat was against Mats Moyson, a really good friend of me, one of my best! I had a really good heat with nice spocks, grubby's, big flaka's, esliders and punetas. Every heat actually went the same with the same moves all after each other I really was on my game ;)! After 5 heats I  was already happy that I was back on the podium! When I had to face Kostya I was very tired and not able to do my tricks so well... So I lost... But I still was so happy to get back on the podium that I actually didn't care so much :)! After that we had the price giving and the end of a very nice week in Premantura, Croatia! I hope to see you next year:)!

Training in Leucate 2012!!

For the Easter Holidays my Mom and me made a sickk trip to Leucate! I met many nice people like Mimo the cook from Wesh Center Crew who is not only a really good cook but also a nice guy! Julien "Wesh" Taboulet is a really good windsurfer that motivated me a lot to realise my dreams!! Just all the people from Wesh Center do an amazing job! I also went surfing to some other nice spots! Like Friday I surfed @ Teleski where I could train a lot in the chop! There were also some German freestylers like Karsten Struwe and Robin Zandrazil who helped me a lot with some of my new moves: thanks for that! After standing maybe 6 hours on the water my friend Michiel De Cooman arrived. Funny but it looked like Michiel brought the really hard wind with him :-) With the wind increasing and me getting more tired every second I thought it would be better to stop for that day! So Saturday I looked out of the window and yeaah mengg it was like we would get a fullpower session again: France was alive!! As fast as I could I wanted to go on the water! with my 3.6 a little overpowered in the gusts I still tried to make the best of this session but the hard wind started to have an effect on my foot every day more pain so more bandage around my foot... I stopped around 7 O'clock because I was just broken! But Sunday was looking Epic so that gave me hope!! 30 knots whole day long what do you want more?! First we went to Wesh center totally overpowered not able to do tricks we decided to go to Eole where it was 10 knots less! There the wind still was very hard but better then @ LE Goulet so just trying to do our best in the gusty conditions I was just to tired to have a nice relaxed session and just went of the water! Actually really happy next day no wind because I wouldn't be able to surf! Monday was just chilling day and trying to rest a bit before Tuesday we took the plane back to Belgium. I really have many good memories about Leucate and I am sure this won't be the last time I go to Leucate!
